Kevin Gates Claims Self Defense After Kicking Female Fan in the Chest

Kevin Gates is using Florida’s controversial “Stand Your Ground” law in his current legal case involving a fan he attacked during a concert last year.

Back in September, Gates was charged with simple battery after he was caught on camera aggressively kicking an 18-year-old woman who grabbed his shorts in the middle of a performance.

But the “2 Phones” rapper is claiming in new court documents that he did absolutely nothing wrong and acted only in self-defense.

TMZ reports:

Gates says Miranda Dixon tried to grab him twice during the show last August in Lakeland, FL — and since he gave her a verbal warning after her first failed attempt … he had every right to fight back.

In the docs, he says Dixon managed to grab his shorts the second time, and he thought she was trying to pull him offstage … so he used necessary force to defend himself and prevent further harm.

He wants the judge to throw out the case.

Gates’ legal team hopes the infamous “Stand Your Ground” law (the same law that helped George Zimmerman get off in the shooting and killing of Florida teen Trayvon Martin) will work in his favor.
