Mugshot Madness: Maia Campbell Arrested in Atlanta As Part of Street Racing Crackdown

Actress Maia Campbell is back in the headlines, this time after being busted as part of a crackdown on street racing in Atlanta.

The troubled former actress, who is best known for starring alongside LL Cool J and Alfonso Ribeiro as Tiffany Warren in the hit 90’s sitcom In the House and has battled drug addiction over the years, was among 44 people arrested Saturday (May 16) during the crackdown, Atlanta’s 11 Alive reports.

According to the AJC, the 43-year-old was arrested on Moreland avenue and charged with being a pedestrian in the roadway. The image of her mugshot has shocked fans.

In a release, Atlanta Police said during the weekend-long operation they issued 114 citations, impounded 29 cars, and recovered four guns, including a semi-automatic rifle.

The arrests and citations were issued at various locations throughout ATL that have been considered hot spots for illegal street racing, including interstates and Spring Street in Midtown.

Last weekend’s crackdown was the latest targeting street racers in metro Atlanta, where races have become huge spectator events and created a buzz on social media, the AJC reported.

Police said street racing has become a bigger problem in recent weeks because lots of streets are virtually empty due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“This isn’t new,” Carlos Campos, spokesman for Atlanta police, said Monday afternoon (May 20). “But what the pandemic did was create a perfect storm where you have young people who are bored; their usual outlets—shopping, hanging out in a park—those were all eliminated by the stay-at-home orders.”

In addition to starring in In the House, Campbell also appeared on other popular 90’s TV shows like Moesha, Sister, Sister and Beverly Hills 90210. She also appeared in a few movies, including 1993’s Poetic Justice.

Following the death of her mother, author Bebe Moore Campbell in 2006, Maia later became known for her battles with drug addiction.

She opened up about her struggles in a 2012 episode of Iyanla: Fix My Life, in which she also talked about her mental illness and how she suffered from bipolar disorder while being interviewed at a treatment center.

After a video went viral back in 2017 showing her strung out and begging for crack at a gas station, LL Cool J tried to reach out to help, but she told him: “Don’t call me. I’ll call you.”

LL later took his frustrations to Twitter, writing: “You can’t help someone who doesn’t want your help.”

12-Year-Old Chicago Boy Held His Dying Twin Brother on the Way to the Hospital After They Were Shot At

A Chicago family is devastated after a 12-year-old boy was shot and killed in front of his twin brother in Northwest Indiana over the weekend.

Demetrius Townsel Jr. was shot in Gary Saturday night (May 16) while riding in the backseat of a car next to his twin brother Darius, according to reports.

Police said there were a total of five people in the vehicle when the shots were fired. The boys were reportedly visiting family in the area and were with their cousins in the car. The driver of the vehicle was a 21-year-old woman.

Immediately after the shooting, the woman drove straight to the hospital and was eventually joined by a police escort.

Demetrius’ twin brother Darius held him throughout the 2-mile journey to the hospital and tried to save his life by putting pressure on the bullet wound, community activist Andrew Holmes said.

But the sixth-grader, unfortunately, succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at 9:36 p.m., according to the Lake County coroner’s office.

No one else was injured in the shooting and police said they don’t have anyone in custody.

“We believe at this time that no one in the car was a target and it was a random shooting into the vehicle,” Gary Police Department Commander Jack Hamady said.

Detectives are asking for the public’s help to help identify the gunman, who Hamady said was on foot and described as a black male with a thin build, dreadlocks and all-black clothing.

Meanwhile, Demetrius’ family is demanding justice and is pleading with the shooter to turn himself in.

“Why would y’all take my baby’s life?” the boy’s father, Demetrius Townsel Sr., said.

“I can’t hold my baby anymore. Please turn yourself in,” his mother, Katherine Brown, said. “I go home empty. I miss his laugh. I miss him.”

“I miss my brother,” Darius said at a memorial on Monday (May 18). “He was the funniest dude I’ve ever known. Picked everybody up, made them laugh.”

The twin brothers are students at R.J. Daley Elementary Academy in Chicago’s Back of the Yards neighborhood.

“It’s unfortunate that something like this would happen to a 12-year-old child,” Lenearl Lightfoot, Demetrius’ stepfather said.

“I was a victim of gun violence myself. The first time I got shot I was 12 years old. Makes me more determined to find out who did this to him.”

There’s a $2,000 reward for anyone who’s able to provide any information leading to an arrest. Tipsters are asked to call 1-800-U-TELL-US (1-800-883-5587).

A GoFundMe has been created to help Demetrius’ family with funeral expenses. “My 12-year-old son was unexpectedly killed… and I need to raise money to bury him in peace,” his father wrote on the page.

Denver Man Charged With Attempted Murder After Shooting Waffle House Cook for Telling Him to Wear a Mask

A Colorado man is facing an attempted murder charge after he allegedly shot a Waffle House employee in Aurora after they asked him to wear a face mask while inside the restaurant.

27-year-old Kelvin Watson was arrested Monday morning (May 18) by the Aurora Police Department and charged with attempted first-degree murder in connection with the May 14th shooting, the Sentinel Colorado reported.

Witnesses told police that Watson and another man came to the restaurant shortly after midnight last Thursday and neither of them were wearing masks.

Waffle House line cook Brian Gruhler, 25, denied the men service, telling them they had to wear masks before he could take their food order, so the men left and returned to the restaurant with masks … but they were holding them and not wearing them as required per restaurant policy during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Gruhler told police after he told the man, once again, that he would not be served unless he was wearing a mask,  an argument ensued and Watson proceeded to threaten him from across the counter, screaming: “You better shut the f**k up before I pull a gun and blow your brains out … I’ll come back there and shut you the f**k up! Make my food!”

A waitress said she saw Watson pull out a gun, place it on the counter and tell the cook “I could blow your brains out right now,” though police said they weren’t able to corroborate that claim when watching surveillance video.

Investigators say Watson returned to the restaurant alone the next night—this time wearing a mask—but because of his shenanigans from the day before, Gruhler still refused to serve him. Watson then berated the cook once again before hitting him in the face.

Gruhler then retreated to the back of the restaurant and exited through a backdoor. The cook told police Watson accosted him again in the parking lot and shouted at him: “You better shut the f**k up and serve me.”

Gruhler said the man then shot him once in the chest. The cook then ran to his nearby home and called 911, leaving a trail of blood through an adjacent Dollar Store parking lot, police later confirmed.

The cook was taken to the hospital and fortunately survived the shooting. He was released Friday afternoon (May 15), a Waffle House spokesman said.

Police were able to link Watson to the shooting after obtaining a receipt with his name on it for a transaction at the restaurant the same time he was there.

During the investigation, police also found a single, .380-caliber shell casing in the area where Gruhler was shot.

Investigators also obtained vehicle records of a BMW that was in the parking lot at the time of the shooting. The same vehicle was determined to be linked with another shooting at a Denver tow yard on April 23rd.

A number of Waffle House workers were also able to identify Watson from photo lineups, including one waitress who picked up a gold earring that fell out of his pocket the first time he acted the fool at the restaurant. She said the earring matched the one he was wearing in an old mugshot.

Several employees also told investigators that Watson is a regular customer at the restaurant, which police later confirmed through vehicle tracking records.

Watson is being held on a $100,000 bond at the Arapahoe County Jail and is scheduled to appear in court on Friday (May 22).

“This case involves a senseless act of violence that should not be tolerated in any community. We are very thankful that neither of our associates who were working when the incident occurred, suffered any life-threatening injuries,” Waffle House spokesperson Njeri Boss said in a statement.

“Our thoughts and well wishes remain with our associate who was injured and now is recovering at home.”

While masks are required in public areas of some communities across the Denver metro area, there is currently no mandate for the City of Aurora, however, the Tri-County Health Dept. strongly advises people to do so.

A South Carolina woman is facing serious charges after she opened fire on her ex-boyfriend and his new boyfriend in a drive-by shooting.

Spartanburg police said they arrested 53-year-old Renee Lavonne Simon Sunday night (May 17) after a man reported that she’d shot at him and his boyfriend as they were arriving at a home on Lincoln Drive.

The man told police that Simon was his ex-girlfriend, and she was apparently angry at him for moving on with his life and shacking up with someone else who just so happened to be another man.

Police said the victims also showed them that Simon had been sending them threatening text messages and videos prior to the shooting.

Meagan Good Says She Didn’t Bleach Her Skin … At Least Not on Purpose: “It Was A Beyond Painful & Traumatic Experience”

Meagan Good has been part of Black Hollywood since she was a child of the 90s. Though a beloved actress, in recent years she has faced skin bleaching accusations from fans.

Over the weekend, Good posted a photo of herself next to her Apple Memoji avatar and one (former?) fan chose to comment on the actress’ skin one and looks.

The commenter wrote:

“Megan looked better dark skin… She not so pretty anymore she looks average… But her dark skin was above average…. Why did she Bleach”

In a rare move, Good responded and denied bleaching her skin, revealing that a treatment by an “unlicensed aesthetician” has “messed up” her skin.

“I didn’t Queen. A (unbeknownst to me) unlicensed aesthetician gave me a product to correct a sun damage mark on my forehead that messed up skin. By the grace of God only; I’m about 80% through recovery and regaining my color daily.

“To be honest it was a beyond painful and traumatic experience because I would never wish that on anybody. I’d really appreciate if you wouldn’t continue to spread assumptions and rumors. Godbless you.”

Fans have speculated about Good’s lightening skin tone for years, but it was shockingly noticeable at her Black and Blue film premiere in October in 2019.

And a November 2019 appearance on The Real caught the attention of social media.

“Why Meagan Good look like Michael Jackson?” one person questioned on Twitter.

30-Year-Old “Twilight” Star Gregory Tyree Boyce & Girlfriend Found Dead in Vegas Condo, Both Leaving Behind Young Kids

Two families and Twilight fans are in mourning after the heartbreaking passing of Gregory Tyree Boyce and his girlfriend Natalie Adepoju.

It has been confirmed that Boyce—who starred in the first Twilight film—and Adepoju were found dead on May 13th inside their Las Vegas condo.

Boyce was 30 years old and is survived by his 10-year-old daughter Alaya. Adepoju was just 27 and was the mother of a young son named Egypt.

Boyce’s last Instagram post was on Mother’s Day and dedicated to Adepoju.

“Happy Mother’s Day again to my right hand / my roll dog / my Queen! Love you,” he wrote.

The cause of death has not been revealed at this time. However, TMZ is reporting that law enforcement sources told the outlet that an “unknown white powdery substance” was found at the scene.

Boyce’s mother, Lisa Wayne, also confirmed her son’s death in a Facebook message.

She shared that they lived in the same complex and the last night she saw him was the day after Mother’s Day for leftover of the meal he prepared.

“I’m sick without you. I’m torn, I’m lost. I’m in pain. I’d text you or call you when I was broken or worried about something, and you’d tell me, Ma, I got you, we’ll get thru this together. Boy. Why did you leave me?”

“The last time I saw you,” Wayne continued, “you walked me to my car, hugged me, kissed me on my cheek and told me that you love me and to call you when I got home. That was it. Never another hug, kiss or to hear those words, I love you again.”

Wayne also revealed that Boyce was a great chef and in the process of starting his own chicken wing business, West Wings. He had named several menu items after west coast rappers like Snoop Dogg and Kendrick Lamar.

Boyce starred as Tyler Crowley in the first Twilight film. His character showed romantic interest in Kristen Stewart’s Bella and it was his van that almost crashed into Bella.

Though he was still commuting to LA for acting jobs, a source tells E! News that Boyce moved to Vegas to help his mom and be closer to his daughter.

Sister of Ahmaud Arbery’s Killer Posted Graphic Photo of Arbery’s Dead Body on Snapchat Because She’s a “Huge Fan of True Crime”

The sister of the man charged with hunting down and fatally shooting Ahmaud Arbery admitted to posting photos of Arbery’s body on social media after the killing because she’s a fan of “true-crime,” a new report says.

30-year-old Lindsay McMichael, Travis McMichael’s sister, said she posted a graphic, unedited photo of Arbery’s blood-soaked body lying in the middle of the street in Brunswick, Georgia on Snapchat, but said she didn’t mean any harm when she did it.

“I had no nefarious or malicious intent when I posted that picture,” she told UK newspaper The Sun Monday (May 18). “The thing is I’m a huge fan of true crime—I listen to four or five podcasts a week—I’m constantly watching that sort of thing.”

She added: “It was more of a, ‘Holy sh**, I can’ believe this has happened. It was absolutely poor judgment.”

Though Lindsay McMichael says she had no ill-intent when she shared the image, an attorney for Arbery’s family called the photo “deeply disturbing.”

“The picture Lindsay McMichael posted was very disturbing and very disturbing to the family,” S. Lee Merritt told The Sun. “It actually fits the pattern of the McMichael family engaging in a weird, violent form of voyeurism.”

Former cop Gregory McMichael, 64, and his 34-year-old son Travis McMichael—Lindsay’s father and brother—were arrested and charged with murder in Arbery’s February 23rd shooting death.

Mugshots: Gregory & Travis McDaniel

Police said the white father-son duo chased 25-year-old Arbery after seeing him at a construction site in the Satilla Shores neighborhood where the McMichaels reside.

After confronting Arbery, who was black and unarmed, Travis McMichael shot him twice with a shotgun at close range during a brief struggle, which was captured on video.

The McMichaels weren’t charged in Arbery’s shooting death until a video of the fatal incident leaked online earlier this month once the Georgia Bureau of Investigation took over the case.

Ironically, Gregory McMichael was the one who leaked the footage to a local radio station because he thought it would exonerate him and his son.

“First you have (Gregory) McMichael sharing with a news station a video of the murder, then you have his daughter sharing an image of Ahmaud’s bullet-ridden body on Snapchat,” Merritt said. “It’s deeply disturbing behavior.”

Lindsay defended her father and brother, saying that they never “meant to kill anybody” and always “loved” her boyfriends who weren’t white. (Ed. Note: Whatever that means.)

She said she was watching a movie at home in her PJs when the fatal shooting happened, and pointed out how her brother looked “desperate” when she saw him after the killing.

“I’ve seen my brother in his happiest moments—I was there when his child was born and I’ve seen him in distress and I know that look,” she told The Sun. “It wasn’t like some glory thing, like, ‘I stalked and then got the kill that I was hoping for.’”

She added: “It was absolute f***king panic … I really do believe that things just escalated so fast. I will until the day that I die believe that he had no intention of malice like that.”

Lindsay McMichael told The Sun that she feels sorry for Ahmaud’s mother, Wanda Cooper-Jones, who she said she “thinks about every day” along with all of Arbery’s family and loved ones.

“His poor mama, I’m not a mother but I couldn’t imagine losing my child. I think about her every day and the grief and despair she must be feeling,” she said.

“The words that I would love to say to his family would not even touch the amount of sorrow that I feel. I can’t say I’m sorry enough.”

Lindsay said she hasn’t spoken to her brother or father since their arrest, however, her family has received threats of violence and rape since the shooting made national headlines.

“We’re not the ones on trial here—my dad and my brother are and yes, I don’t think that they were beating the hood of the truck and saying, ‘Let’s go get this person,’” she told the UK newspaper. “I think that things just really escalated. I just want people to realize we’re not monsters.”

Former Bachelorette Faces Fiery Backlash, Apologizes After Saying N-Word While Singing DaBaby Song: “There is No Excuse … I Am Terribly Sorry”

Former Bachelorette star Hannah Brown is apologizing after saying the N-word during a recent Instagram Live session.

Brown was broadcasting live to her 2.8 million followers on Saturday (May 16), and was attempting to sing the lyrics to DaBaby’s “Rockstar” when she said the racial slur.

The 25-year-old seemingly did not realize she had said the word until moments later when her followers began to call her out.

“I did? I’m so sorry,” she said at the time. “I was singing a song, I’m so sorry.”

“I don’t think I said that word, but now I’m like… Oh God. I’ve never used that word,” she continued. “I’ve never called anybody that…You can think I’m something that I’m not, but I’m not that.”

However, the quick remorse was not enough to stop the backlash that came from social media and stars within the Bachelor Nation.

Brown deleted the video that contained the slur and issued a written official apology on Sunday on Instagram Stories.

“I owe you all a major apology. There is no excuse and I will not justify what I said. I have read your messages and seen the hurt I have caused. I own it all. I am terribly sorry and know that whether in public or private, this language is unacceptable. I promise to do better.”

Rachel Lindsay—the first black Bachelorette—personally reached out to Brown and was incensed over the situation, especially after Brown chose to issue a written apology and not a video following their private conversation.

“I’m personally offended by what was done,” Lindsay began in a video response of her own.

“You know, it’s easy to make a statement. It’s easy to hide behind words…[But] when you’re bold enough to say the word on your platform, then you need to be bold enough to use your face on camera and apologize the same way you said the word.”

Former Bachelor contestant Bekah Martinez was also upset that Brown cavalierly said the N-word, noting that Brown had no issue self-censoring the F-words in the song.

Martinez wrote on her IG Stories:

“How are people still gonna defend CELEBS with access to SOOO much privilege, knowledge, and education saying the N-word…even if it’s ‘just the lyrics to a song’…especially when that person had the wherewithal to skip over the F-word lyrics first.

“We’ve GOT to hold people accountable to do better otherwise we’re continuing to prioritize the feelings of white people (and someone we ‘stan’) over ending our country’s loooong history of casual racism and flippant anti-blackness.”

Brown did have some people come to her defense, including rumored ex, Tyler Cameron.

“HB is not racist. I know,” he wrote on social media. “We need to lift HB up from this. She is learning and growing just like every single one of us.”

WATCH: Impromptu Block Party in Myrtle Beach With ZERO Social Distancing Stops Traffic on Busy Street

South Carolina is among a number of states that have recently lifted lockdown restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic … and people are already flocking to Myrtle Beach in droves. And judging by video footage that went viral, there isn’t a lot of social distancing being practiced and people are NOT wearing masks.

The video, which was originally shared on Facebook Sunday evening (May 17), shows a large group of people on mopeds, motorcycles and golf carts gathering in the middle of the street and playing loud music, putting a complete stop to traffic for SEVERAL minutes along Ocean Boulevard (aka “The Strip”) right in front of Beach House Bar & Grill.

It’s a wild scene … the revelers are standing on top of golf carts and partying it up with absolutely no regard to proper social distancing guidelines and not a mask in sight.

Then, about three minutes into the footage, the crowd scatters like roaches after someone yells “Police coming! Police coming!”

It was also reported a few hours later that there was a shooting in the area that left several injuries and resulted in four suspects being detained.

If you didn’t know any better, the way folks are out here turning up in public … you would think the coronavirus pandemic is officially over and there’s nothing to worry about.

And while we all wish that were true, the sad reality is that the pandemic isn’t even CLOSE to being over with, and videos like this prove that these states are opening up way too quickly.

People have been bored in the house and in the house bored for so long, they don’t even know how to act in public during a global pandemic.

All of this comes after local and state officials lifted restrictions in an effort to boost South Carolina’s economy following a nearly two-month shutdown caused by the coronavirus.

The city had an order restricting hotels from accepting new reservations, but that expired last Thursday (May 14), which allowed tourists from all over the country to travel to and stay in Myrtle Beach.

Last Monday (May 11), S.C. Governor Henry McMaster eased restrictions on indoor dining, allowing restaurants to operate with limited capacity.

Even though they’ve lifted the restrictions, state officials are still urging people to adhere to social distancing guidelines.
